Spotting A Dodgy Drainage Contractor

For home drain solutions a plunger or small amount bicarbonate of soda and vinegar may be more than adequate for the job. However, when there’s a drainage emergency you need a more complex drainage solution and if you hire a cowboy, or a dodgy drainage contractor, you’re asking for trouble.

Always hire a professional for more complex drainage issues.

Don’t delude yourself into thinking anyone can do this job, it can be messy, dirty and downright complicated. You never know what’s down there, and whatever it is that’s down there could be more complex to unblock than you realise. Rather than simply hair and soap blocking the drains, there could be something far murkier and nastier than you imagine.

Look out for tell-tale signs to identify whether you have a more serious problem.

It’s a case of seeing whether a simple solution works and then when you realise this simply isn’t going to unblock your drains, calling in a professional. There could be some tell tale signs such as the one we’ve just described – where you’ve tried all the DIY solutions to no avail, and also such things as a toilet overflowing, gurgling sounds. There may be a slow flow of water coming from the taps, low water pressure is also a sign and you could even have a burst pipe. This usually happens around wintertime when the ground is frozen, and the temperatures have dropped. A lingering bad smell is something else to look out for too.

Hearing some strange noises?

Also try listening out for any strange sounds coming from the drains, this could be trapped air due to a blockage in the pipes that consists of a mix of different materials collected over a long period of time.

East of Scotland Drainage - the drainage experts.

If you have a drain emergency, we can send someone over to make an assessment, possibly instigate an investigation in order to make a diagnosis, and then sort the problem out for you so your drains are back to normal. Keep in mind that blocked drains can be a health hazard, so the longer you leave it the worse it can get; this is especially bad if you have young children.

We’re experts and we’ve spent years in training and getting qualified to do our jobs. We’re experts because we’ve put many years into gaining on-the-job expertise to enable us to treat complex drainage issues. We use all the latest equipment and we’re up to date with most technological innovations.  If anyone comes to you armed with little more than a plunger and a hose and ask little about the problem or carry out an investigation, then we’d strongly advise you back away while you still can. Hiring someone with little proven experience or training could be disastrous, and it could cost you more in the long-term if it goes wrong.

Get in touch with the experts here at ES Drainage, the experts in drainage emergencies, and we’ll help you get back to normal as soon as possible with minimum fuss.
